Our story started on skis in the French Alps and ended here at EC1 Build, one of London's leading office design and fit-out companies.
Our Story
2011
It began in the Alps
After 16 winter ski sessions, working and playing on skis and snowboards in the French Alps all winter and spending the summer months helping create some of the world’s best ski chalets, Ed Clarke returned to London in 2012.
2012
Friends in need
On his return in the summer, Ed set up Ed Clarke Building Ltd to help a friend start their cafe (that friend now works for EC1 Build – we love to bring people along for the ride). Then, that friend recommended our services to another friend who set up the designer streetwear store Goodhood in London’s East End. The project was well-received, from customers to the design press, and it picked up awards for the fit-out. After that, we worked on a family member’s start-up, but once again, it turned to winter and time to return to the mountains.
2014
Making EC1 home
By this time, Ed had said goodbye to the winter snow seasons and was in London working on projects all year round. The company also upped sticks, moved to EC1, and started trading under EC1 Construction.
2017
Coming into focus
With a growing reputation and increasing workload, Ed started carefully building our team. After a few residential projects, we decided to keep our focus sharp and centred on commercial and retail projects. We also changed our name to EC1 Build.
2019
Bold ambitions
Our clients kept coming back to work with us, and word of mouth meant more and more enquiries. We took some big swings, investing more into the business, growing our team and recruiting designers and office staff to support the delivery team. It paid off, and then some.

Today and tomorrow
Every day, we rise to the new and ever-evolving challenges facing the commercial fit-out world. We’re committed to improving our services to deliver workspaces that enhance the lives of everyone who encounters them. All while creating a company where people love to work and feel free to show up as themselves.
